Mejgan Massoumi

Mejgan Massoumi is an assistant professor of history at Carnegie Mellon University. Her current book examines the history of radio in Afghanistan, revealing how sound shaped politics, culture, and everyday life at the crossroads of Asia and the Middle East. Her work has been recognized with the World History Association’s Dissertation Prize and supported by the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), Social Science Research Council (SSRC), and the American Institute of Afghanistan Studies (AIAS). She leads archival and digital projects to preserve Afghanistan’s musical and cultural heritage, including the Sonic Resistance Archive and the Ustad Farida Mahwash Archive housed within Stanford University Libraries.
