দ্যা একিউজড, (জনরে ড্রামা, ট্রায়াল ড্রামা) সিনেমাটি প্রিমিয়ার শো হয় বার্লিন ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ফিল্ম ফেস্টিভালে। তারপর ১৯৮৮’র অক্টোবরে সিনেমাটি অল্প কিছু হলে বিতর্কের মধ্যে দিয়ে প্রদর্শন শুরু হয়। সিনেমাটি বিতর্কিত হলেও পজিটিভ রিভিউ পেয়েছিল বেশি। বিশেষ করে জডি ফস্টার (Jodie Foster) এর অভিনয় ছিল উল্লেখযোগ্য। সিনেমাটি প্রশংসিত হয়েছিল দর্শক সমালোচক দুই পক্ষের কাছেই। আর বিতর্কের কারণ
